In 1932 Thomas Basil opened an independent insurance agency on Church Circle in the heart of Annapolis after entering into a contract to represent Fireman's Fund Insurance Company. On the opposite side of Church Circle, Fred Voges in 1935 opened his independent agency representing Travelers Insurance Company. In the intervening time other agencies and top-tier insurance companies were added to both agencies. When the two agencies merged in 1970 Basil-Voges Insurance was formed. Our agency now serves the needs of over 3,000 clients that rely on us as their agent for personal, recreational marine and business insurance.

Tom Witzel

Tom started his insurance career as a trainee for Aetna Casualty & Surety Company in 1973. He became a Maryland licensed Property-Casualty and Life agent in 1977 when he joined Basil-Voges Insurance as a sales associate. In 1985 he earned the CIC (Certified Insurance Counselor) designation. In addition to his role as agency owner, Tom is responsible for personal and commercial property-casualty insurance sales.

Debbi McMurtrey

Debbi joined an independent insurance agency in Anne Arundel county in 1979 and became a Maryland-licensed Property-Casualty agent in 1981. She has worked at Basil-Voges Insurance since 1995 and specializes in yacht insurance underwriting and sales, and in the sale and service of commercial insurance lines.

Margaret N. Sheckells

Margaret began her insurance career in 1966 with an Annapolis independent insurance agency. She became a Maryland licensed Property-Casualty agent in 1980, and has worked at Basil-Voges Insurance since 2002. Margaret specializes in the sale and service of personal insurance lines.

Paula Sanner (Personal Lines Agent)

Paula joined an independent insurance agency located in Anne Arundel county in 1983. In 1999 she obtained her Maryland Property-Casualty license, and joined Basil-Voges Insurance in 2001. Paula's specialty is the sale and service of personal insurance lines.

Christina Wilkins

Tina began working at Basil-Voges Insurance in 1994 in an internship program for Anne Arundel High School seniors. Tina has an Associates Degree in Accounting and is a participant in the user-groups that support our automation system, and is the agency bookkeeper.
